» Digitech Home System
Structured wiring in a home, once considered a luxury, is now viewed as a necessity in the digital age. Although this method of wiring has been used in the commercial industry for decades, it has only become common practice in the home building industry in the last few years. A structured wiring system is an infrastructure of category rated cabling and components that meets today’s needs for multi-line telephone, DSL, cable broadband services, satellite distribution and local area networks.
The DigiTech Home System is comprised of the most technologically advanced wire available today. You can rest assured that your home’s wiring package will meet the technological needs of today and can be ready for the digital innovations of tomorrow.
The following pages provide a full description of the structured wiring system that is standard in your home. There are structured wiring upgrade options available beyond the standard system included in your home. Be sure to ask your sales representative if you think your particular needs fall beyond the capabilities of the standard system. We will be happy to design a custom structured wiring system for you. |

The DigiTech Home System is comprised
of three main components:
The Central Distribution Center
The Central Distribution Center usually located in the basement, is the interface hub where all outside services enter the home including telephone, cable TV, DSS satellite, Internet and broadband services. All of the structured wiring run within the house is terminated in the Central Distribution Center allowing for easy integration between technologies and services used in the home. Various modules are installed inside the Central Distribution Center to configure the system for voice, data and video services. Your system comes ready for multi-line telephone service, a local area network and video distribution from a number of sources.

High Performance Cable
In order to achieve optimum performance from digital services such as digital satellite, high speed Internet, local area network and HDTV, properly installed high performance cable are a necessity. Below, you will find a brief description of the cable used in structured wiring system. |
|
RG6 Quad Shield Coax
The DigiTech Home System includes RG6 quad shield coaxial cable for all video and cable modem services. RG6 Quad consists of a copper coated steel center conductor and two layers of foil and braid shielding. This is the best coax cable available today. It will provide superior rejection properties from outside interference and excellent video reception for all video services in your home.
Cat5 Cable
Cat-5 4-pair cabling is used for all voice and data wiring in your home. It is the same cable you will find in high-tech office complexes. It will provide the medium necessary for crystal clear multi-line telephone service and an extremely stable computer network capable of high-speed data transmission. |

Multi-Use DigiPorts
In the DigiTech structured wiring system each wired room is equipped with multi-use outlets called DigiPorts.
DigiPorts are expandable modular faceplates that are configured for different uses depending on the location. There are two types of DigiPorts in your standard system, Data/Voice DigiPorts and Deluxe DigiPorts. As an upgrade option a DigiPort can be custom configured as needed.
Phone/Data DigiPorts
The Phone/Data DigiPort is installed on two opposite walls in all secondary bedrooms. It consists of twoCat-5, RJ-45 ports and one RG-6 coax port.
The RJ-45 ports resemble a standard telephone jack except that they are slightly wider. The first Cat-5 port is used for telephone services. It will accept any standard telephone connector cord. The port comes wired for four telephone lines. A standard single line telephone will automatically access the main house line (line1). A two-line telephone will automatically access line 1 and line 2. If you need to access line 2 separately or you need to access lines 3 or 4, we can customize any port to fit your individual needs. The second Cat-5 port is dedicated for a computer network connection. This port is wired to a network patch panel and provides a ready to use computer network infrastructure. You simply plug your computers into the network ports throughout the house and add a network hub, switch or router at an additional cost to complete the network. The computer network port is colored blue to distinguish it from the telephone port.
The RG-6 port provides a standard F-connector outlet like the one found on the back of your TV. It is used to provide a video signal to your TV from either a cable TV signal or a satellite dish and can also be configured for a cable modem. |
|
Deluxe DigiPort
The Deluxe DigiPort is installed in the family room, master bedroom, home office and kitchen. It is essentially a Phone/Data DigiPort with an additional RG-6 port. The additional RG-6 port may be used for sending a satellite or DVD signal back to the Central Distribution Center for distribution to other rooms or to display a camera image as a picture-in-picture video source.
